Rogelio Acevedo

Rogelio Acevedo is a local Watts resident who first attended the Watts Towers Arts Center as a student. His classes included a variety of medis such as painting , photography, and computer animation. At the center, he was also able to view professional art exhibits and meet with artists. This exposure fostered his growing interest in the arts. 

A graduate from California State University Long Beach, Acevedo holds a Bacherlors of Fine Arts in Metalsmithing and Jewerly. A talented artist in his own right, Acevedo is working on a number of his own pieces, 

In 2009, he was one of the artists in the "Watts Towers 50 Inspiring Art" Exhibition in the Noah Purifoy and Charles Mingus Galleries and, in 2010, exhibited his work with Augustine Aguirre, Lawrence Baca, and Raul Curiel in the "The Gentlemen Artists of Watts' at the Canoga Park Youth Arts Center.

Dedicated to sharing his knowledge with children and young people, he recently traveled to Mexico to conduct workshops there. He coordinates the Visiting Schools Programs and is a favorite Art Instructor with the many youth who attend art classes at the Watts Towers Arts Center and the Charles Mingus Youth Arts Center.
